Dogsbite.org is seeking tax exempt status. I urge everyone to write the IRS immediately.

It has come to my attention that an organization (dogsbite.org) is seeking tax exempt status.

http://www.dogsbite.org/donate-dogsbite.htm

“DogsBite.org is a national dog bite victims group dedicated to reducing serious dog attacks by creating common sense laws. We are a volunteer organization currently seeking nonprofit status.”

Dogsbite.org states its primary purpose is to “create” laws, i.e., lobbying. Due to the fact that this organization primarily exists to lobby legislators, I respectfully request that the IRS deny this organization tax exempt status.

I'm not sure I understand your question, Frank.

If you look at dogsbite.org you'll see why we aren't pleased with their organization - they grotesquely take advantage of victims of dog bites and bend statistics to falsely claim our dogs are guilty for it all (when it's not a breed specific problem - it's an irresponsible dog owner problem) The website lobbies to have breed specific legislation passed, and are for the extermination of the pit bull breeds.

And the IRS should not (by their own standards) be granting non-profit status to groups that do lobbying - it's one of the things we had to discuss when we did our own application. The rules stated by the IRS specify that lobbying is a no-no for non-profit groups.

Since dogsbite.org says right on its site that their main purpose is to lobby for breed specific legislation, we want to make sure the IRS holds to its own criterion and does not grant the group 501c3 status, and insists they still pay taxes on money that they make.

While I'm certainly not for anything they have to say, or the hatred they spew on that site, I'm not against their right to say it. But that means they have to follow the same rules I do, and I want the IRS to uphold that.
